John Shave Demonstrates at Writtle Art Group

The latest demonstration at the Writtle Art Group featured artist John Shave. His main picture was a seascape scene near St. Ives, Cornwall, painted in oils using mixed brush and palette knife techniques. The painting used brush work for the main composition and then palette knife to bring the waves and surf to life.

Members of the group were particularly interested in the medium he used to help smooth the flow of oil paint across the canvas board (a mix of linseed stand oil and artist's turpentine).

At the end of the demo John also demonstrated some negative painting with a quick oil sketch - an image of a trawler set against a sunset. We thank John for an interesting and enjoyable morning.

Writtle Art Group Autumn 2015 Exhibition

The Autumn Exhibition held on Saturday 24th of October attracted over 200 visitors who enjoyed viewing  paintings and tasting the excellent array of the homemade cake and teas.

A raffled pen and wash painting created during a recent demonstration by Rod Siger raised over £90 for Farleigh Hospice.

The "The Leslie Bass Trophy" awarded annually by visitors as their favourite members painting went to Alan Vann's watercolour "Early Winter Walk".

Below are a small selection from the exhibition's paintings and once again I give apologies for light reflecting off glass.

Reg Siger Demonstrates at Writtle Art Group

Reg Siger's demonstration at Writtle Art Group was a great opportunity to see a gifted and  entertaining artist demonstrate the techniques he uses to create atmospheric paintings.  Black waterproof ink applied with a liner brush produced a detailed drawing and applications of acrylic washes for colour and texture resulted in a vibrant and colourful painting.
