Kit Leese Demonstration at Writtle Art Group

Kit Leese showed us his technique for using Gouache paints for an interesting rural Essex scene. Kit had chosen a complex image with several layers of detail and came prepared with a pre-drawn sketch which included areas of masking fluid. The paints used were Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache and Arches NOT cold pressed watercolour paper 300gsm (140lb).

Kit built up his picture in various layers, starting with the sky and far distance, before working on the foreground with a mix of Linden Green and Lemon Yellow. He then
used a pre-cut card mask to cover the upper section of his picture while he applied stippling to create some loose and attractive foliage in the near distance. Finally he added vertical marks for the cow parsley and removed the masking fluid from the flower heads before adding further detail.

It was a most informative and interesting demonstration and we thank Kit for his generous advice.

David Pasfield demonstration at Writtle Art Group

David Pasfield's loose and fluid style using acrylic paints and pastels was entertaining, informative, and inspirational. David made painting in a loose style look easy and using vivid contrasting colours the only way to paint.  We thank David for his time and encouragement.

Linda Series Demonstration at Writtle Art Group

"Oils made easy" could have been the title of the latest demonstration at Writtle Art Group and Linda's friendly and very informative presentation should certainly have encouraged some members to have a go!

Linda effortlessly used a photograph of a lady in a flowing dress superimposed onto a beach - with a carefully positioned pool of water - to create an evocative and impressive painting, and all within 2 hours!  We thank you Linda for a very enjoyable morning.

Hashim Akib Demonstration at Writtle Art Group

Today's demonstration was well-attended by close to 50 group members, associates and guests. Hash (as he likes to be known) offered three subjects for his demonstration - two London street scenes, plus a woodland scene which was chosen by the group. Hash explained he was at present using Amsterdam acrylics, and set to work on a pre-prepared canvas with a bright magenta ground. Using his well-established style of large brushes and a circular palette he produced a vibrant background before adding well-placed marks with smaller brushes and plastic scrapers. The overall effect was very pleasing and inspiring to those keen to experiment with acrylic paints.
As usual, Hash kept everyone engaged with an interesting account of his current activities as a budding 'commercial' artist. These include commitments to provide paintings to a number of galleries - quite a heavy workload which he tries to balance successfully with his book-writing and instructional workshops.
