Writtle Art Group paints in the Style of Ray Campbell Smith

Ray Campbell Smith paints in a distinctive style that stresses the use of tonal contrasts, limited pallet, and the use of white unpainted paper.  The paintings look simple but inevitably contain a lot of watercolour techniques.  We looked at his style and then attempted a typical Kent scene.

Snow Scene with Writtle Art Group

The final tuition session of 2012 looked at some watercolour techniques useful when tackling snow scenes.  Wet in wet distant trees, snow shadows, dark green conifers and some leafless tree and shrub shapes made for a active and enjoyable session.  See more of the work by clicking the link here.

Andrew Pitt visits Writtle Art Group

A sketch made at Heybridge Basin allowed Andrew Pitt to demonstrate his knowledge, skills and creative ability in an entertaining and highly informative session at Writtle Art Group on Monday, 24th September.  Over 40 Members, Associate Members, and guests enjoyed watching Andrew show the stages he would go through when painting a famous Essex scene using pen and wash technique,

Writtle Day Art Exhibition

As normal the Monday Writtle Art Groups contributed to the biannual "Writtle Day" by exhibiting over 300 pictures in the Village Hall on the 14th July.  Our work alongside the village's bell ringers, ensured that the hall was packed all afternoon with people enjoying a wealth of talent and entertainment.

Roy Lang Seascape Demonstration at Writtle Art Group

Over forty members and quests attended a highly entertaining and informative demonstration given by Cornish artist Roy Lang on the 25th of June.  Details of materials used, methods and techniques adopted, coupled with vivid narratives of Cornish life ensured all present left enthused, more knowlegdable, and definitely in awe.


Working swiftly Ray managed to complete the two pictures shown below.
